Know about job roles
in the television and film industries?
Jobs within the
television and film industry would consist of creative roles, technical roles
and management roles.
The creative role
would be something like a film director, a film director would have to be
creative as they are the one who make the film look the way it is, they are the
people who give out the orders, Directors have the job of turning a written
script into visuals, Directors role that he would have to do would be editing
the script so that they can mould the script to how they visual it. Also
picking the cast that will feature within the film, even though directors often
have more than one role their main job is to have the visual & idea and
make it happen.
Skills required
becoming a director you must have a vision for art, as this is one of the main
things to develop an original film idea a director would constantly be making
decisions but also willing to listening to others and merge all of them
together, willing to work for long hours
A directors
responsibilities could may well be writing the film script or hiring another
person whom would write the script they will then develop a visual outcome for
the script and to plan out the way this will become successful the director
will also spend time with the editor during the later stages to make sure the
outcome is up to his standards of vision, as a director you will also be taking
control of some technical aspects such as filming, sound, lighting. The March 2011
issue of Vanity Fair Magazine reported that the highest paid film directors in
Hollywood earn between $13 million and $257 million per year.
Editorial role would
be a film editor; a film editor would be someone who is part a creative postproduction
that involves the use of digital technology. A film editor would be the person
who would be involved before & after the footage had been shot there role
is to select the correct shot and combining them together to create a sequence,
they have a large input as to how the film will turn out once it had been
completed but still working with the director as he would be telling the editor
how to make it look.
The editor would have
to have a degree of technical aptitude and a lot of experience with
postproduction process, they also will have to be up to date with all the
latest software must be also able to build tension and have a rhythm to edit.
A technical role
within the industry would be a lighting technician, a lighting technician would
set up the lights before the shoot even took place to carry out lighting tests
while some work within a lighting store room and control all the light from a
machine.
As a lighting
technician the responsibilities will change from time to time but must be able
to adapt to the role given to him. They must be up to date with the Health
& Safety legislation and procedures, the job as a lighting technician will
work by the instructions giving to him by the gaffer and also the Best Boy whom
they act as the team leaders so that they are able to co ordinate there work to
the best of there ability
As a lighting
technician you must be able to work at heights the job does require a lot of
stamina as the hours can often be very long working up to six days a week and
doing 12/13 hours per day, also having to work very quickly and
accurately.
